授業の目標

Goals of the course
The main focus of the course is to improve the students' ability in their listening and reading as well as vocabulary and grammar. The aims of the course is to stretch these aspects outside the classroom using IT software so that the students are better prepared in an academic context by utilizing logic and critical thinking skills. Students will also develop greater confidence in listening English generally and a stronger ability to speak English to communicate effectively their opinions.

授業の概要

Overview of the course
Being a remote course, students will be expected to complete tasks using an online English-learning platform before class. Information about the platform will be provided in the first lesson. Zoom sessions will be held during assigned class time to provide English assistance and/or discuss questions related to homework questions or English in general. Announcements about homework, class information, meetings, etc. will be announced on Moodle. Students will be divided into three groups and will be allotted specific meeting times on zoom according to your group.

The online English platform will build vocabulary, stretch the application of grammar and deepen understanding of high levelled listening activities. Students will primarily be assessed on these aspects of learning and will be provided the opportunity to discuss any challenges in completing these exercises and share their experience in their learning approach. Aspects of pronunciation will also be considered to improve comprehension and intelligibility. Active learning tasks will be the opportunity to apply your studies by actively researching for a suitable TED Talk. You will have to provide additional learning activities to accompany the TED Talk you have chosen as this will be reviewed by other students in your group.
