Academic English: Skill-based (Reading)
|

|
The purpose of this course is to improve the students’ overall reading skills, both intensive and extensive, through non-fiction and fiction, respectively.
|
|
|
|
In class, students will intensively read academic passages from the textbook and complete the related activities. There will be regular quizzes to check the retention of the skills taught. For homework and Active Learning, students will extensively read a novella and fill out logs based on the readings.

|
|
|
|
|
Attendance & Participation - Students are expected to be on time for class and actively participate in it. Arriving late, leaving early, sleeping, using a phone, or not participating in general will be considered as a late. Two such “lates” constitute an absence. Arriving over 10 minutes late or leaving more than 10 minutes early also constitutes an absence. Four absences or more will result in the failure of this course. 12 Animal Farm reading logs - 24% - 2% / reading log on time; 1% / late reading log 12 Quizzes - 76% - Late or absent students receive 0% / quiz.

Students are expected to review the relevant material for the quizzes and to read a chapter of the novella weekly.

For each class, students who forget their textbooks or supplies will give 1% of their final grade to students who share their textbook or supplies.
